During a normal two‑way call, Zenitel intercom devices operate in open duplex mode with built‑in echo cancellation.

Zenitel native devices also support Press‑to‑Talk (PTT) functionality, allowing users to temporarily override open duplex mode.

Press-to-Talk Operation (Local Actions)

  • Press M key
    • Device enters Talk Mode
    • Loudspeaker is muted
    • The device sends DTMF ‘*’ to the remote side
  • Release M key
    • Device returns to Open Duplex
    • The device sends DTMF ‘#’ to the remote side

The ZCP will relay these DTMF * and # events to the remote device.

Remote Control of Speech Mode (Received DTMF) Zenitel native devices respond to DTMF signals received from the remote device:

On receiving DTMF ‘*’

Device enters Listen Mode Microphone is muted

On receiving DTMF ‘#’

Device returns to Open Duplex

Configuration Requirements No additional configuration is required for Press‑to‑Talk functionality. However, this feature only applies when at least one device in the call is a Zenitel native device. If neither device in the call is Zenitel native, Press‑to‑Talk does not apply.
