Background

It can happen in some cases that the PC ends with a blue screen (bsod) when trying to open communication to AMC. This is caused by a conflict between a component used in AlphaPro and a Serial Port on the PC. The component is an Virtual Serial Port ActiveX which is used to enable wacs to communicate with AMC over TCP/IP. This ActiveX is set to use COM9. If COM9 is also used by some other application, the PC can go to bsod.
This applies to AlphaPro 10.00 - 10.27.

Workaround

To check if COM9 is in use by some application you can follow this procedure:

* Control Panel
* System
* Hardware
* Device Manager
* Ports (COM & LPT)

Even if COM9 is not listed under Ports (COM & LPT), it can still be in use by some application. To check this select one of the COM ports in the list.

* Properties
* Port Settings
* Advanced
* COM Port Number

The COM Port Number drop-down will display COM1 - COM 256 and if they are in use. If COM9 is listed as In Use, you will need to find out which application is using it and configure it to use another available COM port.
