This article describes how to install Milestone XProtect Professional IP video surveillance software, and how to configure the software to work with the AlphaCom XE Demo suitcase.

On the USB memory stick coming with the demo suitcase you find:

  • The Milestone Professional software ver. 7.0
  • A text file with the Software License Code (SLC.txt)
  • A .dlk file with the Device License Key (DLK) for connecting to the camera

Installation Instructions

Installing Milestone XProtect Professional on a PC:

  1. On the USB memory stick, locate and run the file MilestoneXProtectProfessionalSystem_en-US.msi. Alternatively, download and install the file from http://www.milestonesys.com/Downloads.
  2. When the installation wizard starts, click Next to continue.
  3. Read and accept the End User License Agreement, then click Next.
  4. Select "Typical installation".
  5. Select "Install licensed version"
  6. Enter a username (e.g. admin), organisation (e.g. Microsoft) and the Software License Code SLC found in the SLC.txt file, then click Next.
  7. Click Finish on the last step to complete the installation.

Import the Device License Key DLK:

  1. Open the Management Application.
  2. In the Management Application’s File menu, select Import DLKs...
  3. Browse to the location of the .dlk file (e.g. the USB memory stick), select the file, and click Open. The DLK is now imported into XProtect Professional.

Note that the DLK is related to the MAC address of the camera coming with the suitcase, and the Milestone software will work with this camera only. The MAC address (S/N) is the 12 digit number found on the rear side of the IP camera.

Users access to images is handled by the ImageServer service, which automatically runs in the background on your XProtect Professional server.

Do the following to configure the ImageServer service:

  • Open the Image Server Administrator window; either from Windows Start menu, or by double-clicking the ImageServer Administrator desktop shortcut.
  • Click the User Setup button to specify which users should be able to connect to your system. Do not forget to add yourself. Use Basic Users. Basic Users are users authenticated by a simple user name and password combination.
  • Having added users, you can simply select Full access for all users.
  • Close the ImageServer Administrator. If Windows Firewall pops up asking to unblock, select Yes.

Open TCP port 1234 in the Windows firewall of the PC running Milestone server:

  • Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Exceptions tab > Add Port: Select port type: TCP. Name: Milestone. Port number: 1234.

To display images from the camera:

  • Start the Smart Client; either from Windows Start menu, or by double-clicking the Smart Client desktop shortcut.
  • Log in with one of the users defined in the ImageServer Administrator.
  • Create your first private view, by first creating a group under the Setup tabs Private top-level folder, and then create a 1x1 view within the group.
  • From the Setup tabs System Overview section, drag the Matrix icon into the view and release it. The view will get a blue borderline, indicating matrix function.
  • While the main window is in focus, click Connection Settings in the Properties selection, and enter port number 12345 and password 12345.
