Audio Messages (Zenitel Connect)

From Zenitel Wiki

Audio Messages allows pre-recorded audio files to be distributed to individual devices or groups of devices. Typical use cases include routine announcements, safety messages, evacuation instructions, and other recurring notifications where a consistent message should be delivered.

Audio Message distribution can be initiated in several ways:

  • By dialing a sequence of service codes from an intercom station or device.
  • By dialing a Broadcast Message Dispatch directory number, see Message Dispatch
  • From an external system integrated to Zenitel Connect using the Zenitel Link protocol

Audio messages are distributed using multicast audio and can be played simultaneously on multiple receiving devices.

Before an Audio Message can be used, the audio file must first be uploaded to Zenitel Connect.

Upload audio file

Navigate to Features > Audio Messages. To upload an audio file to Zenitel Connect Pro there are 2 possibilities:

  • Drag and drop
  • Click on Click to select file

Various audio file formats are accepted, Zenitel Connect transcodes them automatically if required. Supported file type are mp3, opus, flac, webm, weba, wav, ogg, m4a, oga, mid, aiff, wma, ai.

All audio files will be automatically be resampled to 16kHz .wav format, with the exception for files starting with dva_. The prefix dva_ denotes it is a file for the PAVA integration and the file will be resampled to 48kHz .wav format.

Audio Messages administration

Once the file has been added a new dialog will appear where it is possible to:

  • define a new directory number (e.g. 8191) and name for the audio message
  • select an already defined audio message directory number - this in effect replaces the previously assigned audio file for this directory number

Define a new directory number

Click to add a new line and define a directory number and name. Click to accept the entry. An audio file can be added by clicking

Repetitions

Define the number of times the audio message is to be played as part of a single audio message broadcast in the field Repetitions. Valid values are:

  • 1-255
  • 0 (= continuous)

Playback

In order to check whether the audio message has been uploaded and trans-coded correctly, simply press the "play" icon to listen to the message in your laptop.

One can also dial the audio message directory number from an intercom. The device from which the audio message directory number is dialed must have the appropriate permission:

  • Operation: Call To
  • Call Type: Any or Message Call

Start Audio Message from an Intercom Device

Using Directory Service

  • Start message dispatch: 7090 + {message} + M-key + {destination} + M-key

Where:

  • {message} is the directory number of the audio message.
  • {destination} is the destination directory number, which may be an individual device or a Broadcast group.
Example: 7090 + 8191 + M + 841 + M
Dispatches audio message 8191 to Broadcast group 841.
  • Stop message dispatch: 7092

Using Service Codes

  • Start message dispatch: *9*{message}*{destination}#
  • Stop message dispatch: *9#

On native Zenitel devices, the Directory Service sequence or complete Service Code can be assigned to a Direct Access Key (DAK) for one-touch operation.

On ITSV devices, the Directory Service sequence or Service Code can be dialed manually or assigned to a programmable key.

Example:

When DAK 1 is pressed, audio message 8191 is dispatched to Broadcast group 841.

Note icon Service Codes cannot be nested. For example, a key configured to call a Broadcast group cannot be combined with a second key configured to select an audio message. The complete dispatch sequence must be configured on the same key.

Start Audio Message by Data Command

Broadcasting of audio messages is initiated by sending a POST via Zenitel Link. If a audio message needs to be ended before it has finished playing, use DELETE.

POST /api/calls

  • form_dirno: Directory number of the voice message
  • to_dirno: Directory number of the target group
  • action: setup

DELETE /api/calls

  • dirno: Directory number of the audio message
