Genetec Sipelia - Zenitel Connect Pro integration

From Zenitel Wiki

Introduction

This article describes how to set-up an integration between Zenitel Connect Pro and Genetec Sipelia™, and the main functionality achieved.

Configuration

Parts of configuration is mandatory to create a connection and communication between the systems, and others are optional based on the required functionality.

Mandatory: Configuration of SIP trunks

The integration method is SIP trunking, named "External iPBX communication" in Zenitel Connect Pro.

Note icon SIP Trunking is a licensed feature. A ZCL-PBX license is required per trunk

A SIP trunk needs to be defined in both Zenitel Connect Pro and Genetec Sipelia to establish a connection and enable calls between the systems.

For configuration of SIP trunk in Genetec Sipelia, please visit https://techdocs.genetec.com/

In Zenitel Connect Pro define a SIP trunk under the settings for External iPBX communication.

Example: Fully configured SIP trunk towards Sipelia server

  • Prefix: Prefix used when dialing from a Zenitel Connect Pro registered device into Sipelia. We have used prefix 1 in this example.
  • Peer address: The IP address of the server where Sipelia is running.
  • SIP authentication (username/password) is not supported, so leave these fields open in Zenitel Connect Pro and Genetec Sipelia.

A full reference for SIP trunk configuration is found here: https://wiki.zenitel.com/wiki/SIP_Trunk_(Zenitel_Connect_Pro)

Optional: Use of outgoing numbers range in Zenitel Connect Pro

It is possible to define outgoing number ranges in Zenitel Connect Pro, which removes the need to dial a prefix before dialing a Sipelia directory number. For example, if you have devices registered in Sipelia with directory numbers ranging from 2000 to 2100, you can add that range in Zenitel Connect Pro and dial e.g. directory number 2003 from an ITSV without dialing a prefix.

Mandatory: Configuration of Dial plan in Sipelia

Sipelia uses the concept of dial plans which define how calls are routed locally and between two SIP trunks. Thus, to enable calls between Zenitel Connect Pro and Sipelia a dial plan must be defined.

Dial plan configured in Sipelia

Key points:

  • Give a relevant name for your dial plan.
  • Direction from is local, meaning the call comes from Sipelia.
  • Number in the destination field specifies the extension number for SIP trunk used to call devices registered on Zenitel Connect Pro.
  • In direction to, choose the SIP trunk you previously configured for your connection to Zenitel Connect Pro.

For information how dial plans work in Sipelia, details are found here: https://techdocs.genetec.com/

Functionality and examples

Point-to-point calls

Point-to-point calls can be made between Zenitel Connect Pro registered devices and Sipelia registered devices/users. Either by dialing a prefix number + directory number, or by using number ranges which removes the need for dialing a prefix.

In the example below we are using an IP Deskmaster registered in Zenitel Connect Pro to call an ITSV desktop phone registered in Sipelia.

The IP Deskmaster is added and configured in the default way in Zenitel Connect Pro:

IP Deskmaster configuration

The ITSV is added and configured in the default way in Genetec Sipelia, in this example with directory number 1005:

Call example from IP Deskmaster to ITSV:

Dialing prefix number (1) followed by directory number(1005)

Incoming call on ITSV

Call established between devices

Call queues

Zenitel devices can be configured to call into a Sipelia call queue. Likewise, devices/users registered in Sipelia can call into Zenitel Connect Pro call queues.

Configuration of Zenitel Connect Pro registered devices

Configure which dial string the the call button on the Zenitel device should call.

Call button configuration

In this example we have configured it to dial a SIP trunk prefix number (1) and the Sipelia call queue directory number (20).

Established video call

Configuration of Sipelia

Calling into Zenitel call queue from Sipelia can be achieved by dialing prefix followed by directory number of call queue in Zenitel Connect Pro. In shown example, queue call is established by dialing 750 from Sipelia registered device. 7 is extension number set up in Sipelia dial plan, and 50 is directory number of call queue defined in Zenitel Connect Pro

Another approach is adding contact in Sipelia with directory number corresponding to call queue configured in Zenitel Connect Pro-750 for above mentioned example

Queue as contact

Open door

It is possible to trigger the Zenitel Connect Pro open door action from Genetec Security Center and/or by pressing digit 6 on a Sipelia registered devices.

To configure the Zenitel device, follow the steps here: https://wiki.zenitel.com/wiki/Door_Opening_During_Conversation_(Zenitel_Connect_Pro)

Broadcasting

Broadcasting works in both directions via SIP trunk.

Initiating a broadcast from a Zenitel Connect Pro registered device to Genetec Sipelia paging zones

Create paging zones in Sipelia in the standard way. Example:

  1. In "Config tool" go to Sipelia plugin role and select "Public Address".
  2. Press on add and assign name and extension number for your paging zone.
  3. Add which Sipelia registered devices and users you would like as members of the paging zone.
  4. Paging zone configuration should look similar to this:

Paging zone in Genetec Sipelia

To initiate the broadcast from a Zenitel Connect Pro registered device, dial the SIP trunk prefix (1) + the paging zone extension number (3001), or program the dial string to a DAK.

Initiating broadcast from Genetec Sipelia to Zenitel Connect Pro broadcasting groups

The Zenitel broadcasting groups can be used as part of the standard broadcasting options in Genetec Sipelia:

  • Live broadcast.
  • Text to speech.
  • Prerecorded messages.

Start by configuring Broadcast groups in Zenitel Connect Pro in the standard way: https://wiki.zenitel.com/wiki/Broadcasts_(Zenitel_Connect_Pro). Example:

Broadcast group in Zenitel Connect Pro

Then create a paging zone in Sipelia as described in chapter 2.4.2. Assign the extension number to the created paging zone in the following format: SIP extension number in the Sipelia SIP trunk + directory number of the broadcast group in Zenitel Connect Pro.

Live broadcast
  1. In Security Desk, on top of the screen, press on phone icon, under contacts select the paging zone you wish to address.
  2. Under Broadcast sources, select Microphone.
  3. Start broadcast.
Text to speech

Text to speech functionality is that user can type text in Security desk interface, that text will get converted to speech and played on the chosen broadcast group:

  1. In Security Desk, on top of the screen, press on phone icon, under contacts select the paging zone you wish to address.
  2. Under Broadcast sources, select text to speech.
  3. Enter the text you want to broadcast
  4. Start broadcast
Text to speech

Broadcasting prerecorded messages

This type of broadcast allows users to broadcast pre-recorded messages stored in Sipelia.

  1. In Security Desk, on top of the screen, press on phone icon, under contacts select the paging zone you wish to address.
  2. Under Broadcast sources, select the message you want to broadcast.
  3. Start broadcast
Prerecorded message broadcast

PAVA

It is possible for a user in Sipelia to trigger features within the Vipedia PAVA system.

Extension numbers dialed within Sipelia can be linked to 4 different features in the Vipedia PAVA system:

  • Live announcement.
  • Store and Forward announcement.
  • Play a prerecorded DVA message.
  • Menu that gives a choice between the first three options.
Note icon
  • Announcements can be initiated from Genetec Sipelia to the PAVA system. Announcements in the other direction are not supported.
  • Pre-recorded messages stored in Sipelia cannot be played on the PAVA system. The pre-recorded messages need to be stored in Vipedia or in Zenitel Connect Pro.
  • Zenitel Connect Pro must run on the ICX-510 server. Zenitel Connect Pro running in a virtual environment does not support this integration.

PAVA works in a way that it has reserved number range, for example between 3000 and 3020, every number in between has it’s announcement mode configured and zone assigned to it

PAVA directory numbers

In this case, when you call prefix number for SIP trunk+PAVA directory number from Sipelia you will start live announcement in zones defined related to 3001, if you call 3007 you will start announcement by playing audio message and so on.

Note: If you wish to add PAVA directory numbers as users in Sipelia for quicker access, ensure that PAVA directory number is no longer than three digits because maximum length of digits for Sipelia directory numbers is 3.

Call reports

Point-to-point calls, calls into call queues , and broadcast are registered in the Security Center call report.

Call report example for calls showing timestamp, duration, and participants

The example above shows that calls made from Zenitel Connect Pro registered devices lists as directory number@IP address of the server.

Call report example for broadcast showing timestamp, duration, and participants

The example above shows that a Sipelia connected device (DeskMasterBlack) called extension number 100 (directory number for broadcast group in Zenitel Connect Pro) which is located on IP address 10.8.36.193 (IP address of Zenitel Connect Pro server).
