Network Interface Configuration (Zenitel Connect Pro)

From Zenitel Wiki

Introduction

Network Interface configuration is done from the tile Networks in the System section.

An ICX-510 has two network interfaces which can be configured, a Virtual Machine has minimum of one network interface.

Network configuration

ICX-510 - default configuration

The two network interface of the ICX-510 are labeled Eth0 and Eth1. The default configuration is:

  • Eth0: Static IP-address: 169.254.1.5/16
  • Eth1: DHCP
OBS icon It is highly recommended to use “Static” IP address, as the devices need to know the IP-address of the server. Alternatively use DHCP, and link the MAC-address of the ICX-510 to a fixed IP address in the DHCP Server.

OBS icon It is strongly recommended not to use the 169.254.x.x/16 range in production environment. This range is reserved for link-local addressing (APIPA), which computers automatically assign themselves when they cannot get an IP address from a DHCP server. Because these addresses are not routable and only work on the local link, using them intentionally in a VoIP intercom system can cause connectivity instability, discovery problems, and incompatibility with routing, VLANs, or centralized management.

Note icon IP addresses are given in CIDR notation

Virtual Machine - default configuration

A Virtual Machine may have multiple network interfaces. All interface are configured as DHCP.

Network interface options

Each network interface has 3 main settings which can be selected:

  • DHCP
  • Static
    • IP-address
    • Gateway IP-address
    • DNS
    • Alternate DNS

The Server Hostname is common to all interfaces and only needs to be set for one interface.

The current status of the selected ethernet interface is displayed:

Current configuration
  • IPv4 Address: Current IP-address of the interface. This may be different from the setting in the IP-address field, if the new setting has not been saved yet. If the port is not connected it will show as status Disconnected
  • Hardware Address: The MAC-address of the interface
