Vipedia And V2000 Update Manager Tool

From Zenitel Wiki

The Update Manager software enables you to update the software on your Vipedia-12, V2000 and LSZDC cards. (These steps can also be followed with the Integra unit, as it contains the same components).

The Update Manager is found in the tools folder of the software bundle which can be downloaded via the downloads page on the Zenitel Wiki

This article has also been written on the basis that there is sufficient understanding when modifying laptop Ethernet adapters.

Before You Start - Important Notes

Warning icon Failure To Follow These Notes Could Lead To The Device Software Becoming Corrupted

  • It is recommended that the Engineering Terminal/Laptop being used for the software update is connected via ethernet to ETH1 or ETH2 on either the Vipedia or Integra ROUTER
  • It is recommended that the Vipedia-NET NetworkCardManager.exe GUI is populated before running the UpdateManagere.exe tool so that it can be run during the Update Manager process.
  • Do not use the Update Manager (MPS Image) to update MPS microphones, please refer to: MPS Firmware Update Manual - U-0664-1005_Type_AB_FW_Update_01.pdf
  • The update process may fail and cause corruption if you are connected to ETH3 or ETH4 on the Vipedia-NET card due to unintended Vipedia-NET card reboots.
  • Although the update manager shows "Update Complete" on the V2000s, the update to the LSZDCs is not complete until the SCT configuration is loaded into the system. DO NOT POWERCYCLE THE V2000 until you have loaded the Static Configuration using the SCT tool.

Step by Step Instructions From Top To Bottom

Installing/Starting the Tools

Navigate to the "Tools" folder within the software bundle

Opening The Tools Folder

Double-click UpdateManager.exe to open the Update Manager Tool

Opening UpdateManager.exe

Press the FTT button and navigate to the FTT which should have been installed beforehand. (Please click here for File Transfer Tool install instructions) The path should be C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\ASL\FTT_VXX

Selecting Firmware Transfer Tool File Path

Setting Up the UpdateManager GUI

Select Firmware_Transfer_Tool.exe and select "Open". The FTT box should now be populated with the path to the FTT.

Selecting Firmware Transfer Tool

Press the "SCT Config" button and navigate to the SCT configuration containing the Vipedia(s) and V2000(s) you wish to update and select open.

Selecting System Configuration Tool File Path
Selecting System Configuration Config

You should now see the devices configured in the static configuration, listed as target devices within the Update Manager.

Target Devices Shown In Blue

Ensure that all the devices you wish to update have their "Update" boxes ticked, within the device window.

Leave the "clear Config" options as default.

Selecting Files for the Vipedia

Press the “HCP” button and navigate to the following folder in the software bundle: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\01-VIPEDIA-12_&_INTEGRA\HCP\yourpreferredlanguage

Selecting Host Control Protocol File Path

Select the HCP file, followed by "Open" and the HCP box should populate with the required HCP software.

Host Control Protocol File Path

Follow the same procedure for the DSP and FPGA files. These can be found in the following locations:

DSP: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\01-VIPEDIA-12_&_INTEGRA\DSP

FPGA: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\01-VIPEDIA-12_&_INTEGRA\FPGA

Selecting Files for the V2000 and LSZDC Cards

Next, the software module for the V2000 frame and LSZDC files can be selected using the same process. The frame and LSZDC software can be found in the following locations:

Frame: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\02-V2000_&_INTEGRA\V2000\Frame_Controller

  • If you have an R2 V2000 please select the alternative "V2000-R2" file as shown below

V2000+LSZDC Software File Path
V2000-R2 Software File Path

LSZDC Combined: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\02-V2000_&_INTEGRA\V2000\LSZDC\Combined

LSZDC Bootloader: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\02-V2000_&_INTEGRA\V2000\LSZDC\Bootloader

LSZDC Application: \ASL_VIPEDIA-12_Vx.x.x\Software\02-V2000_&_INTEGRA\V2000\LSZDC\Application

NOTE: Once you have populated all fields you can use CTRL+S to save these parameters as a asl-tmp-pkg file. Any saved sessions can be loaded into the Update Manager using CTRL+L and selecting your saved .asl-tmp-pkg file. (Please note: This does not work for windows 11, Only windows 10.)

Testing Node Reachability

For peace of mind. to confirm visibility of all nodes, you can ping each IP address and ensure that you receive a response:

a. Type CMD in the Windows start box

b. In the command prompt terminal, type: ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where x = IP address of device)(I have used 192.168.1.2 as an example)

Determining Node Reachability Example Using Ping

Target Devices Updating

Once the Vipedia and V2000 update has started, you can also start the Vipedia-NET NET-VIPA update using the NetworkCardManager.exe Tool(For instructions on how to use this tool). Ensure that "Current Progress" is >1% prior to commencing Network Card Manager Update.

NOTE The Vipedia(s) will reboot when the update process starts. During the update process, you may see some elements retry multiple times in the debug window. This is normal while the Vipedia is rebooting. Once the Update Manager is finished you should see the following:

Target Devices Updated

Writing The Static System Config To The Devices

Open the SCT configuration and complete the following:

1. Click the File Transfer Tool shortcut, which is represented as an F icon

2. Write the configuration to the system. Ensure that all slots populated with LSZDCs are included in the V2000 section of the SCT configuration file, as failure to do so will result in them not updating.

Writing the Static Configuration to the Nodes

Once loaded, you should see the "SELECT" LED on the amplifier in the configured slot, with functional LSZDC card fast flashing. This is to indicate that this LSZDC is being updated. Each LSZDC will update one by one starting on the configured slot and finishing on the final configured slot.

If there are no slots currently in use, the LED's on the front panel of the V2000 will pulse continuously (The LED's on the front of the Electronics Module will flash on the Integra) and they will stop once the LSZDC update is complete.

To verify that the LSZDCs have updated, you can connect to the V2000 frame using the Amplifier Dynamic Tool (ADT). Please follow these steps within the SCT:

1. Click the Amplifer Dynamic Tool shortcut, represented as an A icon.

2. Ensuring you have the correct V2000 frame selected, press Connect.

3. By default, you will be on the "Settings and Information" tab when clicking between slots and this tab can be used to verify that the Firmware and Bootloader match the versions you have uploaded.

4. You can also check the bottom of the ADT to verify the Frame Controller Version.

  • Please Note: You may need to disconnect / reconnect to allow the ADT to update LSZDC card readings if you are checking the version updates while it is in progress.
