Adding Stations and Devices (Zenitel Connect Pro)

From Zenitel Wiki

The Zenitel Connect Pro (ZCP) has a built-in discovery function that will scan the network for Zenitel Devices, and add them to the system. This article describes how to prepare the ZCP and the devices, and how to run the Scan function.

Software requirements

  • It is highly recommended to use the latest firmware versions in the Zenitel Connect Pro and the Devices.
  • Check the Software compatibility to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.

Preparations

Prepare the ZCP - Define subnet(s) used by devices

Before the ZCP can discover any devices, the subnet(s) used by the devices must be defined.

In the ZCP web interface select Devices and Connections > Configuration and click on the icon. Here you specify which subnet(s) to scan for Zenitel Devices. Click on the to add more subnets.

  • Description: Any descriptive text
  • Address: The subnet address in CIDR notation
  • Static IP: Check this flag if the devices are to use Static IP address. If the devices get their IP address from a DHCP server, leave this flag unchecked
  • Subnet mask: If "Static IP" is enabled, devices will be provisioned with this subnet mask when they are added to the system.
  • Gateway: If "Static IP" is enabled, devices will be provisioned with this gateway address when they are added to the system.

Subnet definition when devices are obtaining IP address from a DHCP server:

Subnet settings when devices are set to DHCP.

When a device is added to the system it will automatically be provisioned to use DHCP, regardless of its current settings.

Subnet definition when devices are using Static IP:

Subnet settings when devices are using Static IP

When a device is added to the system it will automatically be provisioned to use Static IP with the subnet mask and gateway defined here, regardless of its current settings.

Preparation of the devices - DHCP or Static IP

Zenitel Connect Pro can only detect devices that are in factory default state. Since devices are shipped in this state, they can normally be discovered out of the box. If discovery issues occur, or if the device may have been configured previously, reset the device to factory defaults before retrying.

If the device is to use Static IP address, go to Main Settings and assign it a static IP Address and the subnet mask identical to what is defined in the ZCP Subnets settings.

Note icon ITS-1 and ITSV-x: If you want to use this device with static IP address, the IP settings must be set from the display menus (Settings > Network > Ethernet Settings), not from the web interface. If using the web interface one have to change the default password, and ZCP will no longer be able to discover it.

Note icon If there is a need to change Network Settings for a device at a later stage, go to the Network settings in the Device & Connections > Configuration.

Scan the network for devices

Select Devices and Connections > Configuration from the web interface. Click Start Scan . The system will now start to scan all defined subnets for Zenitel Devices.

List of discovered devices after a Scan operation

After discovery a device can be identified by pressing the "play" icon . The device will then play a sound in the loudspeaker for 6 seconds. The Identify feature works with native Zenitel devices only.

Assigning a Number and Name

There are two options:

  • Select Click to assign, and enter a new Directory Number and Name, or
  • Select Click to assign, and pick a predefined number from the drop-down list. These are numbers that have been Imported from Excel Spreadsheet, or have been by Manually added in advance.
Assign a Number and Name, or select from the drop-down list. Bold numbers are already in use

After the Number and Name is assigned, the Zenitel Connect Pro will push configuration out to the device. The device will register to the server, and should get the Operational Status "Operational" in the web interface. The device is now operational.

Configuration of the devices

Once a device has been added, you can configure its properties by selecting a device and use the icons displayed on the left. You can also select multiple devices. If the selected devices are of different types, only the parameters they have in common will be shown.

For a detailed explanation of all configuration options, see Features and Functions .

Optional ways of Adding Devices

Import configuration from Excel spreadsheet

The system offers an option to Import devices from Excel spreadsheet.

Manually adding devices

If devices are not yet connected to the network one can manually add the devices by selecting Devices and Connections > Configuration from the web interface.

In the Zenitel Connect Pro web interface select Devices and Connections -> Configuration, select the icon to add a new device. Enter:

Save by pressing the icon to the right. It is possible to change the entered parameters by selecting the device and clicking Edit .

When the devices are connected to the network, run the Scan function to discover the devices:

  • If the MAC-address was included the discovered devices will automatically be assigned
  • If the MAC-address was not included select "Click to assign" on a discovered device, and pick the directory number you want to assign to the device from the drop down list.

Deleting a device

When deleting a currently online device from the Devices and Connections > Configuration web page, the device will receive a command to return to Factory Default settings. However, the device will keep its IP Settings.
